The Boiler Replacement Scheme

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a Government initiative to get more of us to invest in green energy to help the UK hit it's net-zero emissions target by 2050. The current energy price crisis only makes this more important! If you would save 20% on 2021 prices imagine the savings on 2022/23!

Key Points

  • The scheme runs until April 2025
  • You will receive £5,000 towards the cost of an air source heat pump
  • VAT on heat pumps is 0% for the next 5 years

Can I get a Heat Pump?

There are two things to consider.

  • Not every home in the UK is suited for heat pumps
  • Just 90,000 homes will be able to benefit before the scheme runs out of funding so it's a first come, first served system.

There is also a fixed criteria to qualify.

  • You must be a homeowner or small business owner
  • Your property must be in England or Wales
  • The building must have been issued an energy performance certificate (EPC) in the past 10 years
  • You must follow one of the three EPC scenarios listed below
  • Your EPC contains no recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation
  • If your EPC does recommend these, but you insulate your home between applying for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and getting a heat pump installed
  • Your property has an EPC or insulation exemption – for example, this may be the case if you own a listed building

How does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme work?

  1. Register your interest for an air source heat pump with us
  2. We apply for a voucher on your behalf and have to install within three months (6 months for ground source heat pumps)
  3. After installation we will redeem the voucher and pass the entire amount back to you.

How much do heat pumps cost?

Around £10,000 on average, so with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme you save £5000 or 50%.

How much will I really save?

£5,000 on installation and around £950 per year at 2021 energy prices, as gas continues to rise expect this saving to increase significantly, or rather you will avoid the huge rises in gas prices and even electricity prices.
